Colon Scores In Overtime To Lift Field Hockey Over Moravian

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University field hockey team resumed action and got back to its winning ways with a 3-2 non-conference victory in overtime over Moravian College on Wednesday night.

The Aggies improved their record to 4-6 on the season while the Greyhounds dropped to 1-5.

The match was scheduled for, and began on Wednesday, September 1,1 but an extended stretch of lightning forced the two schools to suspend the second half of match until today. When the contest was suspended three weeks ago, it was tied at 1-1. Moravian scored first during the second quarter on a goal by Ava Edwards. DelVal answered just 45 seconds before the intermission as TJ Smith found the back of the cage on a rebound off of a corner play to knot the score at one apiece when the lightning began.

Just over three minutes into the resumed second half, Edwards notched her first of the day, but second of the game. Sara Cruz found open field and dribbled into DelVal territory before feeding Edwards who slid it under the keeper to make it a 2-1 game.

Samantha Collyer responded for the Aggies less than five minutes later as she deflected a shot in front. Jess Dixon and Smith both earned an assist on the game tying goal, 2-2.

The score would remain the same through the fourth quarter as this game was destined to head into overtime. Last season, Moravian bested DelVal in penalty strokes

Early in overtime, the Greyhounds had an opportunity to end the game but an excellent diving poke check by Rosie Bishop kept them off the board.

In the 67th minute, off a set corner play, Ali Aguilar played the ball into Jess Dixon who ripped a shot toward cage that was deflected by Aguilar and careened to the side of the cage where Madi Colon stuffed it home for the game-winner as the bench erupted to celebrate the 3-2 victory.

DelVal finished the game with 17 of the 21 corner opportunities including the only one in overtime. The Aggies also outshot Moravian, 23-15, and 3-1 in overtime.

Colon's goal was her first career game-winner.

Kita Konerth played the first half prior to the delay and had five saves. Bishop played the remainder of the game and had four saves to earn the win.

The Aggies will travel to Hoboken, NJ as they resume MAC Freedom play versus Stevens on Saturday, October 5 at 12 p.m.
