DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) -- The Delaware Valley University men's soccer team battled with King's College on Homecoming Saturday in an affair that saw 10 yellow cards and a combined 35 fouls, but the Aggies came out on the wrong end of the 3-2 decision in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom bout.
The Monarchs improved to 10-3 overall and 1-1 in league play while DelVal dropped to 4-7-1 and 0-2.
In the 12th minute, King's had a golden opportunity to get on the board as it was awarded a penalty kick, but Aggies' keeper Josh Jarret sprawled to his left to keep the ball out of the net. However, just moments later, the Monarchs earned a free kick just outside the edge of the box and Dylan Ramage cashed in as he bent the ball into the far corner to make it a 1-0 game.
Less than five minutes later, Nik Verma slid a through ball ahead to Kyle Shalvey who got behind the defense and slid one passed the keeper and into the net for a 2-0 Monarch's lead in teh 18th minute.
DelVal got one back before the end of the half as
Austin Daniels drilled one from just beyond the 18-yard box and it hooked inside the left post in the 41st minute. It remained a 2-1 contest going into the second.
Each team had one yellow card against to that point and King's held a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Things got chippy in the second as four yellow cards were issued through the first 25 minutes. In the 73rd minute, the Monarchs extended their lead to 3-1 Atiyeh Aziz put one home off a pass from Salvey.
A little over five minutes later, in the 78th minute, the King's keeper committed a foul in the box and Daniels cashed in his second of the night to make it a one-goal game again at 3-2.
DelVal had opportunities down the stretch to tie the score but came up just short and the Monarchs escaped with the 3-2 road conference win.
Jarrett and Seamus McAnee split time between the pipes for DelVal and made five and three saves, respectively.
