Robinson Nets Career-High 35 Points, Aggies Make It Four In A Row

PURCHASE (Ny.) – Sophomore Lybrant Robinson scored a career-high 35 points as the Delaware Valley University men's basketball team won its third straight Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom game, 82-70, at Manhattanville College.

Just over halfway through the league schedule, with six games to play, the Aggies hold a 6-2 mark (10-9 overall) and are in a tie with Eastern for second place, just a half game behind DeSales for the top spot. The Valiants fell to 2-6 and 8-11.

DelVal trailed, 14-9, after 5:48 of action, but ripped off a 7-1 run to take a one-point lead. Robinson started the spurt with a trey and the Aggies hit four free throws.

Manhattanville fired back with an 11-2 outburst to take its largest lead of the game, 26-18, with 9:29 left in the half.

DelVal still trailed by seven, 31-24, with just over seven minutes on the clock, before heating up with a 20-5 run to close the stanza. Robinson had nine points to lead the charge, including five straight points to end the run and give the Aggies a 44-39 lead into the break.

DelVal continued its run into the second half as Mike Cianciulli converted an and-1 to get things going, and the Aggies increased their lead to 51-41 and extended its run to 27-7 over a span of 11:25 of game play.

Later in the half, Manhatanville scored six straight points to cut the gap to five, 57-52, with 13:43 left in regulation.

DelVal locked in and scored 13 of the next 18 points in the game to go back up by 13, 70-57, with 6:36 to play. The Aggies closed the game with a free throw by JaDon Robinson to earn the 83-69 road conference triumph.

Robinson's career-day came on 14-of-22 shooting from the field and he accounted for all five of the team's 3-pointers in the game to finish with 35 points, nine rebounds and two assists. Matsinye followed with 12 points to go with five rebounds and three blocked shots while Damian Washington grabbed a game-high 13 boards, scored 11 points, and dished out six assists to go with a pair of steals. Andre' Butler also notched 11 points while grabbing four rebounds and two helpers. Cianciulli contributed with seven points, four boards and one assist and Damani Myers handed out three assists.

As a team, the Aggies shot 27-for-57 (47.4%) from the field and 5-for-16 (31.3%) from deep, as well as a 24-for-32 (75%) effort from the charity stripe.

Sean Smith led the Valiants with 24 points on 9-of-17 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds with two assists. JoJo Cobbs followed with 12 points and nine rebounds and Mike Granda scored nine points. Manhattanville shot 26-for-66 (39.4%) for the game from the field and 8-for-22 (26.4%) from 3-point land.

DelVal has two home MAC Freedom games this week beginning with an 8 p.m. tip against Misericordia University on Wednesday, January 30.
