Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Matsinye's Milestone Not Enough For Men's Hoops Against Misericordia

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – Senior Alex Matsinye reached a career milestone with his 1,000th point as an Aggie, but it was visiting Misericordia University that was triumphant with an 81-66 over the Delaware Valley University men's basketball team in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom showdown on Wednesday night.

The Aggies saw their four-game win streak snapped and now sit at 6-3 in conference play and 10-10 overall. The Cougars are at 5-4 in league games and 12-8 overall.

DelVal found itself down 20-10 after the first 11 minutes of play, but battled back over the next two minutes of play to cut it one, 20-19. The Aggies hit three consecutive treys in that stretch with Lybrant Robinson connecting on two and Mike Cianciulli draining another.

Misericordia responded with an 18-2 run to take its largest lead of the game, 38-22. Andre' Butler scored for DelVal just before the half, and the Cougars maintained a 14-point advantage.

The Aggies shot 10-for-33 (30.3%) from the field while Misericordia went 16-for-30 (53.3%) through the first 20 minutes.

Out of the break, the Cougars went on an 11-2 run to expand its lead to 49-26 early in the second stanza. During that spurt, Misericordia senior Tony Harding recorded his 1,000th career-point with a contested layup down low.

The Aggies went on a 15-2 run to cut its deficit to 51-41 with 10 minutes left in regulation. Matsinye came alive in that stretch with seven points, including a 3-pointer to spark the outburst.

With 6:48 left in the game, Matsinye caught a pass from Damani Myers in the block and rose up with a floater for the milestone basket. That made it a 60-48 game.

The Cougars did not let DelVal get any closer the rest of the way and held on for the 81-66 MAC Freedom victory.

Matsinye finished with 12 points to go with four rebounds and Robinson scored a team-high 24 points with four boards and three assists. Damian Washington finished with 10 points and paced the team on the glass with eight boards while picking up four steals. Butler and Cianciulli each finished with eight points as Butler added seven rebounds.

Harding scored 25 points, including his milestone 13th of the night, and Jason Kenny led all players in the game with 26 to go with four steals and six rebounds. Justin Iton and Alex Rodway scored seven apiece with Iton hauling in 10 rebounds. Noah Rivera also grabbed 10 boards and finished with four points.

The Aggies will take on Eastern University at home on Saturday at 3 p.m.
