DelVal Field Hockey Nets Seven For Third Straight Win

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Madi Colon scored two goals and assisted on two others as Delaware Valley University exploded for a 7-1, non-conference home victory over New England College on Saturday.

The Aggies improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2013 when they won the first three, en route to a school-record 13 triumphs. The Pilgrims slipped to 0-3.

The seven goals by DelVal were the most in a game since the squad netted eight in an 8-1 rout of Elmira back in 2014. The first two came in the opening eight minutes and the Aggies never looked back.

Freshman Courtney Austin started the scoring by getting to a loose ball in the circle off a long pass and connecting just 93 seconds in. Then off a corner attempt, Aimee MacFarland slid a pass to Alexa Aguilar who put it past goalkeeper Christine McNeil for the 2-0 lead.

New England got onto the scoreboard with 24:31 left in the half as Sophia Castriotta sent Brittany Tierney in on a breakaway and Tierney connected. The Aggies answered 10 minutes later as Colon found the ball in a wild scramble in front of the Pilgrim cage and scored. DelVal keeper Rosie Bishop then secured her team's two-goal lead with two saves in an eight-second span late in the half, including a sprawling stop.

The second half was all Aggies as they scored four goals in a 15-miniute span. Colon netted her second of the day with 17:51 remaining off a rebound from a Jess Dixon shot. Ninety-four seconds later, Colon picked up her first assist on a tally by Gillian Nardelli. Dixon, a freshman, made it 6-1 with a min-breakaway for her first collegiate goal. Sophomore Isabella DeMaria then notched her first collegiate tally with 2:34 to go as she netted a rebound off a shot by Colon.

DelVal had advantages of 25-7 in shots and 13-6 in corners. Bishop finished with four saves in 59-plus minutes of action. McNeil and Gabryelle Hart combined for 10 stops in the loss.

The Aggies will travel to Moravian College on Wednesday, September 12 (5 p.m.) for a non-conference game.
