BETHLEHEM (PA) – The Delaware Valley University field hockey team saw its three-game winning streak come to an end as the Aggies fell in a shootout at Moravian College, 2-1.
DelVal fell to 3-1 on the season while the Greyhounds improved to 2-3.
Moravian picked up the lone tally of the first half as Sara Cruz had a tap in at the left post off a feed from Erica Heaney. That goal came just 9:22 into the contest.
It remained 1-0 until the Aggies got a penalty corner opportunity six minutes into the second half.
Alexa Aguilar slid a pass to
Aimee MacFarland and the senior beat the goalkeeper from the left side. It was the first collegiate goal for MacFarland.
The game stayed deadlocked for the remaining 28-plus minutes of regulation and a pair of 10-minute overtimes. That set the stage for a shootout, the first in Aggie history. DelVal's first three shooters failed on their opportunities while the Greyhounds connected each time. When Olivia Emrick scored to put Moravian up 3-0 that sealed the win for the squad.
The Greyhounds held advantage of 23-18 in shots and 19-11 in corners.
Kita Konerth stopped nine shots in the loss while Ashley Kunsman had eight saves for Moravian.
DelVal will look to bounce back on Saturday, September 15 (1 p.m.) when it travels to Drew University for a non-conference game.
