DelVal Volleyball Wins In Five At Penn State Berks

READING (PA) – After taking a 2-0 lead, Delaware Valley University was forced to play a fifth and final set at Penn State Berks, but the Aggies came away with the thrilling, 3-2 victory. Set scores were 27-25, 25-22, 22-25, 20-25 and 15-8.

The non-conference win upped the DelVal's record to 2-2 while the Lions fell to 0-5.

The Aggies were down 21-13 in the first set before rallying for 11 of the next 13 points. They were denied one set point and to withstand one attempt by Penn State Berks before winning the set. The second set saw DelVal win the final three points, including an ace from Kayla Bracken and a kill by Samantha Nields.

Back came the Lions with triumphs in set three and four to force the deciding fifth set. The Aggies went up 2-0, but Penn State Berks answered with four straight. The set was then tied at 5-5 when DelVal responded with six straight points, including five on the serve of Nields. Bracken had two of the six points with kills.

The Lions pulled to within four at 11-7, but the Aggies put the match away with four of the next five points.

DelVal had 50 kills on the night while committing just 29 hitting errors. The team also registered 57 digs and eight service aces. Bracken, a senior, recorded a career-high 21 kills to go with 15 digs, three assists and two service aces. Laura Sweger added eight kills and Kourtney Campbell provided seven kills and eight digs. Nields had five kills while Danielle McKelvey tallied six kills, six digs and 35 assists.

​​​​​​​Abbie Carr paced the Lions with 15 kills and MacKenzie Read dished out 41 assists.

The Aggies will have its home opener on Thursday, September 6 when Rutgers-Camden comes to Doylestown.
