DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Samantha Greim scored the lone goal of the game in the 103rd minute of double overtime to lift Delaware Valley University to a thrilling 1-0 victory over visiting Gwynedd Mercy University.
The Aggies improved to 1-1 on the season while the Griffins fell to 0-3.
With 7:41 remaining in the second overtime period, Greim beat her defender to a ball in the box and sent a shot passed the keeper from 18 yards out to lift DelVal to its first victory of the season.
The Aggies outshot the Gwynedd Mercy 15-9 on the night and had three corners to the Griffins zero.
Five minutes into the game the visiting team had one of its best chances of the night, but Amanda Credido's shot rang off the crossbar and stayed out of the net.
DelVal controlled much of the pace the rest of the way and had eight shots in the second half including a long shot from Sarah Young that bounced once and forced the keeper to deflect the ball of the crossbar and out of play.
Haley Young made six saves in goal for the Aggies while Kailey Hopkins made 10 at the other end as each keeper went the distance in goal on a hot night in Doylestown.
Sarah Young led DelVal with four shots on target and Greim had three. Victoria Braeunle and Francesca DeMaio each had two shots on goal to lead the Griffins.
The Aggies will be back on home turf Friday night when the host Muhlenberg College at 7 p.m.
