EDWARDSVILLE (PA) – The Delaware Valley University women's soccer team kicked off Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play on Saturday afternoon, but dropped a 1-0 decision to host Wilkes University.
The Colonels improved to 3-4-1 on the year and 1-0 in MAC Freedom play while the Aggies fell to 3-6 and 0-1.
Each team had two corner kick opportunities in the first half, but neither team could break through. DelVal played a tough half defensively and grinded out a 0-0 score at halftime.
In the 70
th minute, the Aggies misplayed a ball in their defensive end and Wilkes capitalized as Jessica Egan scored her first of the year to make it 1-0.
Haley Young made eight saves in the second half to keep DelVal close and finished the game with 12 stops, but the Colonels prevailed with the conference victory.
DelVal will play at Penn State Abington at 4 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon before resuming MAC Freedom play at Manhattanville College next Saturday.
