DelVal Volleyball Falls To Rutgers - Newark

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Rutgers – Newark scored five straight points in the third game to earn a 3-0 victory over host Delaware Valley University in a non-conference match on Friday night. Game scores were 25-18, 25-16, and 25-23.

The Scarlet Raiders improved to 11-4 overall while the Aggies fell to 3-9.

In the first game, Rutgers – Newark had three runs of four consecutive points, including a 4-0 spurt to close the game, 25-18.

DelVal put together a 4-0 run of its own to start the second game as Danielle McKelvey got things started with two straight service aces. A block by Kourtney Campbell and Samantha Nields put the team up 5-1 early.

The Scarlet Raiders tied the game at 8-8 and the contest was deadlocked four more times after that before they put together a 10-3 run to pull away with game two, 25-16.

Game three was more back and forth action before the Aggies went on a 4-0 run behind the serving of Alexis Sideris to take an 11-9 lead. Rutgers – Newark clawed back to tie the game at 15-15, but Kayla Bracken went to the service line and got five straight points, including two service aces, to put DelVal up, 20-15.

The Scarlet Raiders responded with five straight points of their own to tie the game for the seventh time. From there, the Aggies scored three straight points to take a 23-20 lead, but it was Rutgers – Newark that scored the final five points to escape with the 25-23 game and 3-0 match victory.

DelVal volleyball is at Penn State Brandywine for its next match on Monday, October 1 at 7 p.m.
