Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Gibson Scores As Women's Soccer Blanks Cairn, 1-0

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The game was rescheduled and the location was changed, but the Delaware Valley University women's soccer team came away with a 1-0 victory on its home turf, over Cairn University, on Tuesday afternoon.

The Aggies got back to .500 overall at 3-3 while the Highlanders suffered their first loss in the last five games to move to 2-1-3 overall.

The contest was originally scheduled to be played at Cairn University at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, but the Highlanders' field was rain-soaked and unplayable.

It took DelVal just 11:14 to get on the board in this one as Calla Gibson won a ball in the box and put it past the keeper from in close to make it 1-0. The Aggies ripped off seven shots on goal in the first half, and allowed just one, to maintain a one-goal lead at the break.

DelVal had five shots on goal in the second half and a number of chances from in close, but could not capitalize. The defense stood tall and allowed zero shots on goal and two corner chances. The Highlanders did have five shot attempts, but none on target. One of the Aggies best chances came off a corner kick as Samantha Greim sent the ball into the box, but Taylor Boyer's header try went just over the cross bar.

In the waning seconds, Sarah Jackson got behind the Aggies' defense, but her shot attempt went just wide and DelVal held on for the 1-0 victory.

Haley Young played all 90 minutes in goal and earned her second win, and second shutout, of the season. DelVal will be home again on Saturday at 5 p.m. it hosts Albright College.
