DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University volleyball team hosted Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom foe DeSales University on Tuesday night, but it was the Bulldogs who escaped with a 3-0 victory. Game scores were 25-14, 25-10, and 25-16.
The Aggies dropped to 3-5 overall and 0-2 in MAC Freedom play while DeSales improved its record to 9-4 and 2-0.
Danielle McKelvey converted a kill off an assist from
Jess Holster in the first game to tie the score at 1-1, but the Bulldogs led the rest of the way en route to the 25-14 win.
In game two, DeSales scored 12 straight points with Sammie Martin serving to take a 15-1 lead. DelVal got three consecutive points late in the game, sparked by a block assisted by McKelvey and
Samantha Nields. However, the Bulldogs went on to win the game 25-10.
In the final game,
Kayla Bracken recorded a serving ace to pull the score tied a 7-7. The Bulldogs eventually led 12-9 before the Aggies ripped off three straight points to knot the game for the second time as McKelvey set up Bracken for the kill. The game was tied again at 13-13 before DeSales went on a 6-0 run to take the lead and, ultimately, escape with the 25-16 victory.
Bracken led DelVal with seven kills and 10 digs. McKelvey dished out seven assists to go with four kills, four digs and two blocks assisted.
Tara Moffa recorded seven digs from the libero position and Nields recorded four blocks (two solo, two assisted) and one dig.
Grace Merritt and Morghan Shoemaker each had a match-high nine kills and combined for five digs. Audrey Wolfe notched 27 assists to go with three service aces and two blocks assisted. Gabby Savite finished with eight kills and seven digs.
DelVal will be home again this Thursday when it hosts Cedar Crest College at 7 p.m.
