DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Freshman
Courtney Austin scored two goals and assisted on another to help lift Delaware Valley University to a 3-1, non-conference victory over visiting Immaculata University on Tuesday.
The win improved the Aggies to 5-1 on the season as they now prepare for their Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom opener against King's College on Friday, September 21 (7 p.m.). Immaculata fell to 1-7 with the loss.
The Mighty Macs had 10 of the game's 14 shots in the first half, but it was DelVal that had the 1-0 lead at the break. The goal came from Austin with 16:35 remaining as she took a feed from
Aimee MacFarland in the middle of the circle and blasted it into the back of the cage.
Less than three minutes into the second half, Austin received the ball from
Jess Dixon off a corner opportunity. She slid a short pass in front to
Madi Colon and Colon connected for her fourth goal of the season and a 2-0 advantage.
Immaculata made it a one-goal game with 8:59 left as Willa Thompson pounced on a loose ball in front of the goal and scored. The Mighty Macs then had five consecutive shots in a 28-second span, but Aggie goalkeeper
Kita Konerth was there to stop four of them while the fifth attempt sailed wide.
Following a DelVal timeout, Austin came down the left side and took a shot that found its way into the net with 3:58 to go that sealed the win. Austin leads the team in scoring with six goals and one assist for 13 points.
Immaculata finished with a 24-11 advantage in shots and had 11 of the 15 corners. Konerth, a sophomore transfer from Division I University of Connecticut recorded 14 saves to pick up her first win as an Aggie and even her record at 1-1. Randie Kuhar notched eight saves for the Mighty Macs.
