CHEYNEY (PA) – Delaware Valley University notched 19 service aces on the evening, en route to a 3-1 road victory at Division II Cheyney University. Set scores were 25-17, 25-12, 23-25 and 25-14.
The Aggies improved to 3-4 while the Wolves fell to 0-3.
After a victory in set one, DelVal had eight service aces in the second set. Three came on consecutive serves by
Kayla Bracken as she served eight straight points to erase an early 3-0 deficit. Bracken had a fourth ace in the set while
Danielle McKelvey and
Samantha Nields had two apiece.
The Aggies found themselves down 20-10 in the third set before
Jess Holster served the team to within three. They were then down 24-21 and staved off two set points thanks to a kill by
Alexis Sideris and an ace by Nields, but a service error gave Cheyney the set.
In the fourth, DelVal was down again, this time 8-4, before the team registered 10 straight points on Nields' serve. The Aggies cruised the rest of the way.
McKelvey notched 12 kills, 15 assists, nine digs and five aces on the evening. Nields finished with seven kills and four aces while Bracken's numbers included six kills, nine digs and seven aces.
Danielle Marin led the defensive effort with 19 digs while Taylor Purer had 11 assists.
DelVal will host DeSales University for a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom match on Tuesday, September 18 (7 p.m.).
