Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Aggie Men's Soccer's Late Rally Falls Short In 1-0 Loss

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University men's soccer team made a late-game push, but could not cash in as visiting Shenandoah University escaped with a 1-0 non-conference victory on Friday afternoon.

The Hornets (3-2-1) had the first three shots of the game, including one from in close that forced the Aggies' (2-3) keeper, Josh Jarrett, to make a big standing save.

DelVal's best opportunity came in the 23rd minute as Andre Permyashkin played a through ball in to the box for Austin Daniels but he was denied by the on-coming keeper. Patrick Lawler also had a near miss as he floated a ball just by the left post late in the stanza.

The Hornets had four shots on goal to the Aggies' three in the first half, but the score remained 0-0 at the break.

Just over two minutes into the second half, Shenandoah broke the scoreless. Nick Seymour sent a cross into the box and Matt Sweeney touched it backwards to Kane Melendez who put it in the open net to make it 1-0.

Late in the second half, the DelVal offense made a surge. Nick Miller broke through the defense and let a shot go from 15 yards out that forced the Hornets' keeper to make a diving save. Then, with two minutes remaining in regulation, the Aggies earned a direct kick, but Austin Daniels attempt rang off the post and stayed out. A minute later, Miller got his head on a cross and sent the ball just off the crossbar and the final whistle blew as Shenandoah escaped with the 1-0 victory.

Jarrett made eight saves in goal for DelVal and Daniels led the team with two shots on target. The Aggies had seven corner opportunities and four shots on goal.

Shenandoah managed nine shots on goal with five corner kicks and Sam Fischer made four saves in net.
