DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University men's soccer team hosted Penn State – York for its 2018 home opener and earned a convincing 4-1 victory.
The Aggies improved to 2-1 on the year and the Lions dropped to 0-2.
DelVal controlled much of the first half and outshot Penn State – York 6-1 with five corner opportunities to the Lions zero. The Aggies fourth shot on goal gave them a 1-0 lead as a header from Sam Dibella found the back of the net. Nick Gaetano played a ball into the box from the near sideline that bounced once and Dibella was on the other end to head it home from six yards out.
Seven minutes later, in the 43rd minute, Andre Permyashkin netted his second of the season. He beat a defender to the ball and struck a left-footed shot low and inside the right post.
The DelVal offense kept up the pressure in the second half and it paid off early. Sean Maley played a 50-50 ball ahead to Nick Miller and Miller poked it passed the keeper well outside of the box, and deposited the ball into the empty net for a 3-0 lead in the 48th minute.
A little less than two minutes later, the Lions got a fortunate bounce off a DelVal defender for an own goal and a 3-1 score. The Aggies got the goal right back in the 70th minute when Austin Daniels netted his first of the season.
DelVal finished the game with nine shots on goal to the Lions' two and held an 11-0 edge in corner opportunities. Permyashkin picked up his second goal of the season while Daniels, Miller and Dibella all earned their first of 2018. Gaetano picked up his first point of the season with the game's lone assist. Freshman Billy Moyer made the start in goal, due to an injury to the starting keeper, and earned his first collegiate victory.
Today marked the start of a four-game home stand for the Aggies as they host Rosemont College on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
