Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Coyle Hits A Milestone, DelVal Men Fall To Eastern In MAC Freedom Opener

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Senior Chris Coyle became the second player in Delaware Valley University men's lacrosse history to reach the 100-point plateau for a career, but it was Eastern University that notched a 15-9, Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom victory over the host Aggies.

The Eagles, who have won five of the last six conference championships, improved to 4-6 overall and 1-0 in the league while DelVal dropped to 2-8 and 0-1.

Coyle scored two goals in a 32-second span late in the third quarter to reach the milestone. He added a third tally for point number 101 as he joined junior teammate PJ Rafferty (119 points) on the exclusive list.

However, the rest of the evening belonged to Eastern as it scored 10 of the game's 12 goals in the first half. Matt Auletti had three of the tallies while Mark Buannic and Trevor Gallion had two apiece. Rafferty had both of DelVal's goals in the stanza.

Matt Waibel had a man-up goal to start the third quarter for the Aggies, but Trent Ashton and Auletti answered for the Eagles. DelVal got three of the next four – two from Coyle and one from Nick Shendge – to trail 13-6 after three. Ashton connected two more times before Waibel, Khalil Lindsay and Coyle wrapped up the scoring.

Eastern held advantage of 45-38 in shots and 36-20 in ground balls. The Eagles also won 20 of the game's 26 faceoffs, including an 18-for-22 effort by Zach Bauer. Ashton and Auletti had five-point performances. Jameal Hadeed made 11 saves in net.

Coyle (three goals), Rafferty (two goals), Shendge (one goal, one assist) and Waibel (two goals) had multiple-point effort for the Aggies. Jerad Wilson led the way in ground balls with four. Nic Brown and Gavin Yingling combined for 10 saves.

DelVal will host MAC Freedom foe DeSales University on Wednesday, April 11 (4 p.m.).
