DelVal Baseball Honors Seniors, Drops Pair To Visiting King's

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – On Saturday, the Delaware Valley University baseball team celebrated its eight graduating players with a senior day ceremony, but it was visiting King's College that walked out with the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom doubleheader sweep.

The Monarchs improved to 18-14 overall and 11-9 in league play while the Aggies dropped to 9-20 and 4-13.

King's got on the board first in game one as Dan Hartson and Chris Rebar got aboard with walks and came into score on RBI hits by Kyle Lupas and Shawn Stone. Lupas also came into score on Stone's double and the Monarchs led 3-0.

DelVal responded in the bottom of the frame as Tom Crooks laced his fourth triple of the season to the fence in left center, scoring Kevin Crill from first. Luke Hendricks came up next and hit a single to center field to score Crooks and make it a 3-2 game after one inning.

King's extended its lead to 7-2 with a four-run third inning highlighted by a two-run homer to right center field by Sean McKee.

After the Monarchs went up 8-2 in the top of the fourth, Ryan Schuetrumpf delivered his first career homerun, a deep shot to left field, to make it 8-3 after four.

Brad Wilkins made it a six-run game again in the fifth with an RBI single, but DelVal got its second homer of the day in the bottom of the frame when Luke Hendricks cleared the center field fence for a two-run dinger to make it 9-5.

DelVal got as close as two of tying the game after Timmy Lallis hit a sacrifice fly to score Jeremy Stewart and make it a 9-7 game in the sixth, but that is the closest the Aggies would get.

The Monarchs tacked on one more in the seventh to take game one, 10-7.

Stone led all players with three hits in the game to go with three RBIs and John Wickiser earned the win on the mound.

Crill, Hendricks and Musselman led the Aggies in the opener with two hits apiece and Hendricks drove in three runs. Ben Lippincott suffered the loss on the mound

In game two, DelVal drew first blood when Luke Hendricks singled home Lallis in the bottom of the first.

From there, King's went on to score 10 runs on 14 hits in the second and third innings combined to take a nine-run lead. Sean McKee had two RBI doubles and scored twice in the run to lead the charge.

The Monarchs would go on to score twice more in the fourth and once in the sixth and finished the game with 24 hits and a 17-2 victory. Lupas stood out with a grand slam to left center field in the seventh inning and finished the game with three hits. Wilkins led all players with four hits in the game and had three runs scored and three RBIs. Dan Hartson earned the win on the mound allowing just two hits and one strikeout.

Amos, Hendricks and Stewart had the Aggies hits and Jeremy Hefele suffered the loss on the mound.

DelVal will be right back at it tomorrow with another MAC Freedom doubleheader at Manhattanville College starting at 1 p.m.
