DOYLESTOWN (PA) –
Taylor Teliszewski had 10 points to set a new single-game and career points record, and
Kara Imes scored her 100
th career goal to lead the Delaware Valley University women's lacrosse team to a 19-11 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom victory over visiting Wilkes University.
The Aggies improved to 1-5 in the MAC Freedom and 5-8 overall while the Lady Colonels dropped to 0-6 and 3-12.
Teliszewski scored three of her goals in the first nine and a half minutes as part of a 7-1 DelVal run to start the game. Janee Rhone added a pair of tallies and an assist during the spurt.
Wilkes' Jessyca Held scored her second of the game at the 20:23 mark to make it a 7-2 game before Teliszewski notched her fourth off a feed from
Claire Gamache with 18 minutes left in the half.
The teams exchanged goals, with Imes getting her first of the day, before Kyra Boccio netted two free-position opportunities separated by just 23 seconds to make it a 9-5 game.
DelVal then scored four of the final five goals of the stanza to take a 13-6 lead at the break. Freshman
Claire Gamache assisted on two of those scores for her third and fourth of the half.
Neither team scored over the first 15 minutes of the second stanza until Held broke through with two unassisted tallies separated by 24 seconds to make it 14-10.
The Aggies scored the next five goals and stretched their lead to 19-10 with 2:43 to play before closing the game with a final of 19-11.
History was made with 9:35 left in regulation as Teliszewski broke the single-game points record with her ninth of the day on Imes' 100
th career goal, as the duo embraced in celebration and the Aggies took a 16-10 lead.
Shortly later, Gamache tied the program record for assists in a game with her fifth of the day on
Amanda McKeegan's third goal of the game. Teliszewski tacked on one more to tie the record for goals in a game with seven, and give her 10 points on the day. It was also her 127th career point as she moved past
Graeleigh Lackey for the top spot in program history..
McKeegan added two assists in the game to finish with five points and Imes had one helper for a four-point effort. Rhone also earned three goals and an assist for a four-point game while
Sabrina Butler notched one goal.
Courtney Knight and
Tenaj Lael each scored the second goals of the season with Knight adding four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Gamache led the team with eight ground balls and five caused turnovers to go with four draw controls and Imes had 11 draw controls.
All of Wilkes' goals came from Boccio (six) and Held (five) and all were unassisted. Boccio and Danielle McCole each had five ground balls with McCole leading the squad with four caused turnovers.
In goal,
Amanda Dietrich made 13 saves in the win while Sarah Carlini suffered the loss and made seven stops.
DelVal will play its final game of the 2018 campaign on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Manhattanville College.
