Aggie Baseball Drops Two At Wilkes

EDWARDSVILLE (PA) – Delaware Valley University rallied with three runs in the top of the seventh to tie the nightcap, but Wilkes University got a walk-off single to complete the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom doubleheader sweep on Sunday. The Colonels took the opener, 5-2, and finished off the second game, 9-8.

Wilkes upped its record to 17-12 overall and 12-5 in the MAC Freedom while the Aggies dropped to 8-18 and 3-11.

DelVal trailed 8-5 going into the seventh of game two, but three walks over the first batters loaded the bases with two out. Timmy Lallis singled through the right side to score one. Ben Lippincott then delivered a single through the right side that plated two to tie the game.

However, in the bottom of the seventh, the Colonels had runners on first and second with two outs when a walk loaded the bases. That brought up Jack Fischer and he had a base hit to center to bring home the winning run.

Wilkes led 8-1 in the game before the Aggies got two runs in the fourth and fifth innings that set up the late-game dramatics. In the fourth, Steve Smith delivered a two-run double while, in the fifth, Ryan Schuetrumpf and Sammy Amos had RBI singles.

Lippincott was 3-for-5 with two RBIs while Smith was 2-for-3 and drove in three runs. Amos also had a multiple-hit game as he was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

In the opener, the Colonels jumped out to a 2-0, first inning lead before DelVal tied it with single tallies in the third and fourth, thanks to RBIs by Kevin Crill (sacrifice fly) and Schuetrumpf. However, Wilkes scored three times in the fifth, including a two-run single by Alex Halladay, for the 5-2 win.

The Aggies will host DeSales University for a single MAC Freedom game on Tuesday, April 24 (4 p.m.).
