DelVal Baseball Drops Home Conference Game To Manhattanville

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Manhattanville College scored five runs in the ninth inning en route to an 11-4, Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom, victory over host Delaware Valley University.

The Aggies dropped to 8-14 overall and 3-7 in league play while the Valiants improved to 11-12 and 7-5 with the win.

In the first inning, Luke Scoggins got aboard with a single and later came around to score on an RBI single by Peter Iannarilli to put Manhattanville up, 1-0.

Tom Crooks tied the game for DelVal in the bottom of the frame with a shot to the right-center field fence that scored Michael Milazzo from first.

The Valiants regained the lead in the very next inning as Scoggins picked up his second RBI and Matt Lynch drove in one of his own to make it 3-1.

In the fourth, Manhattanville loaded the bases with one out and Jack Matero delivered a single through the right side to score one. Aggies pitcher, Ben Lippincott, got the next batter to ground into a 4-6-3 double play to limit the damage and keep it a 4-1 game.

DelVal cut its deficit to one in the bottom of the fourth when Jeremy Stewart hit a ball to the left field fence that scored Sammy Amos from second. Stewart came around to score on an error to make it 4-3.

In the sixth, the Aggies went to the bullpen and the Valiants regained the lead with a two-out, two-RBI double to deep right field from Luke Schaffer that made it 6-4. DelVal had the bases loaded with two outs in its half of the sixth, but failed to capitalize.

The Valiants held the Aggies off the board the rest of the way and tacked on five runs in the ninth to secure the 11-4 victory.

Four different Aggies had a pair of hits including Crooks who led the team with two RBIs. Amos, Kevin Crill and and Trevor Musselman were the others with two base knocks. Matt DeLaRosa got a start at designated hitter and went 1-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored. Lippincott five innings and gave up four runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts.
