DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University women's lacrosse team knocked Wesley College from the unbeaten ranks and the Aggies remained perfect at home this season thanks to a 14-12, non-conference victory on Saturday.
DelVal improved its record to 4-2 on the season, including a 3-0 mark at home. The Wolverines fell to 5-1.
The Aggies opened the game with back-to-back goals by
Kara Imes before Wesley answered with four straight tallies. DelVal came back and tied it up as
Claire Gamache connected with 6:44 left in the first half and
Amanda McKeegan followed two minutes later.
The Wolverines took advantage of an Aggie penalty and scored with 3:21 to go before the intermission as Tiaziah Wright found the back of the net. Imes got her third of the day with just 36 seconds left in the half and the teams went into the break tied at 5-5.
DelVal came out flying in the second stanza and scored three times in the first 1:44. Gamache started run 23 seconds in and
Sabrina Butler followed just 28 ticks later.
Taylor Teliszewski then picked up her first goal of the game for an 8-5 advantage.
Wesley notched three of the next four goals to trail by one, 9-8 with 19:24 remaining. Imes and Teliszewski answered for DelVal only to see the Wolverines get two straight to stay within one.
Senior
Janee' Rhone started a 3-0 Aggie spurt with back-to-back tallies. Her first came with 8:59 left on the clock while the second was in a man-up situation with 7:14 to go. Gamache completed her hat trick 48 seconds later for a 14-10 DelVal lead. Wesley made things interesting with two goals in a 20-second span shortly after, but the Aggies held on for the win.
DelVal outshot the Wolverines, 35-26, and were dominant in drawl controls with a 19-9 advantage. The Aggies also scooped up 31 of the game's 55 ground balls.
Imes finished with four goals and nine draw controls. Gamache also had nine draw controls while adding three goals, five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Teliszewski had three goals and three ground balls while Butler (one goal, one assist) and Rhone (two goals) had two points apiece.
Courtney Knight was strong on defense with seven ground balls and five caused turnovers.
Amanda Dietrich finished with seven saves, eight ground balls and three caused turnovers.
For Wesley, Paige Brehm led the way with five goals and three assists for eight points. She also rounded up four ground balls. Wright and Fallon Fore added three points apiece. Francesca Benitez tallied five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Shelby Schirmer made nine stops in the loss.
DelVal is off until Monday, April 2 when it travels to Immaculata University for a non-conference game.
