IMMACULATA (PA) – Immaculata scored seven unanswered goals late in the second half to pull away from visiting Delaware Valley University and earn a 19-12 victory on Monday afternoon.
The Mighty Macs upped their record to 5-3 on the year while the Aggies dropped to 4-3.
The game was highly contested most of the afternoon with seven lead changes and ten deadlocks before Immaculata closed the game out with a 7-0 run over the final 14:07 of regulation.
Kennedy Layne sparked the run with her sixth goal of the day and 28
th of the season to make it 13-12. The Mighty Macs never looked back from there as Rosemarie Reitman scored four times and Layne added another followed by a late goal by Brittany Whaley to seal the 19-12 victory.
Early in the game, DelVal trailed 3-1 before scoring three straight goals to take its first lead of the game at 4-3 just over 10 minutes in.
Sabrina Butler started the spurt with her second goal of the day followed by
Claire Gamache and
Kara Imes who tallied within 1:24 of one another.
The teams traded goals the rest of the half, but it was Gamache who set up
Taylor Teliszewski to give the Aggies a 7-6 lead at the break.
In the second half, Immaculata scored three quick goals in a span of four minutes, 19 seconds to regain a two-goal advantage, 9-7. DelVal did well to erase it again, as Butler and
Amanda McKeegan each got on the board to make it 9-9 with 21:31 still to play.
The Mighty Macs got the next tally to regain the lead, but Gamache and McKeegan put the Aggies back on top with goals separated by 1:22 to make it 11-10 with 18:23 on the clock.
However, that is the last time DelVal would lead in this game as Hannah Verrecchia scored two consecutive times before Teliszewski potted her second of the day to tie it at 12-12 just before the Mighty Macs run to close the game.
Gamache and McKeegan each finished with three goals and one helper to lead the Aggies offense with four points. Butler finished with three goals, two ground balls and a caused turnover and Teliszewski registered two goals and an assist for three points. Imes finished with a goal and an assist to go with four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Courtney Knight anchored the defense with five ground balls and five caused turnovers. Gamache and Imes each had eight draw controls and
Amanda Dietrich made 15 saves in goal before
Shannon Hood came in to play the final 8:48 and make one save.
Layne led all players with an eight point game including seven goals and one assist. Reitman and Verrecchia followed with four goals and two assists for six points each while Verrecchia also led the team with five ground balls and seven draw controls. Whaley and Maura Murray each notched three points with Whaley scoring three times and Murray earning three helpers. Lex Goerlach went the distance in net and made 15 saves.
???????DelVal will now set its sights on Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play as the final seven games of the season are all conference bouts beginning at Eastern University on Saturday, April 7 at 1 p.m.
