FORT PIERCE (FL) – The Delaware Valley University baseball team wrapped up its Spring Break trip to Florida by sweeping a pair of games from Norwich University, 7-2 and 6-4, on Thursday.
The sweep improved the Aggies' record to 5-5 on the season, including a 4-4 mark on the trip. The Cadets fell to 0-10.
The opener saw DelVal post a run in the bottom of the first on a run-scoring single by
Sammy Amos. The Aggies then added two in the third, including one from a
Luke Hendricks base hit.
Norwich plated two in the top of the sixth to make it a one-run game, but DelVal answered in its half of the inning as it scored four times on six hits.
Kevin Crill had the big blow with a two-run single.
Hendricks, coming off a 5-for-5 in the second game against Western Connecticut State the day before, went 3-for-3 in the opener.
Michael Milazzo was 2-for-4 with an RBI while Crill was 1-for-3 and knocked in two. Freshman
Cal Endy improved to 2-1 as he went the full seven innings and allowed two runs on six hits while striking out seven.
In the nightcap, DelVal went out to a 4-0 lead thanks to three runs in the third and one in the fourth. Two runs were knocked in on singles while the other two came on sacrifice flies.
The Cadets took advantage of two Aggies errors and countered with four runs in their half of the fourth to tie the game. However, Hendricks put DelVal back up in the fifth with a one-out, RBI double. The Aggies then added an insurance run in the seventh as Amos led off with a double and later scored on an error.
James Eldridge picked up the win in relief as he did not allow a run or a hit in the final three-plus innings. Offensively, seven players had one hit apiece.
DelVal is scheduled to open Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play with a home doubleheader against Misericordia University on Sunday, March 18.
