DALLAS (PA) – Seven-time defending Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom champion Misericordia University swept a doubleheader from Delaware Valley University, 13-5 and 7-3, on Sunday.
The twinbill was originally scheduled to be played in Doylestown, but was moved due to field conditions from last week's snowstorm. The Aggies, who were still the home team on the scoreboard for both games, fell to 5-7 and 0-2 while the Cougars improved to 12-4 and 4-1.
The opener saw DelVal take a 1-0 lead in the second as
Sammy Amos was hit by a pitch to lead off the stanza and he eventually scored on an RBI single by
Trevor Mussleman.
However, Misericordia responded with 13 runs over the next four innings, including seven in the sixth inning. The Aggies put four on the board in the seventh thanks to two-run singles by Musselman and
Steve Smith.
Musselman finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs while Smith was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Ben Lippincott went five-plus innings and took the loss. Steve Weisensee led the Cougars by going 3-for-4 with a home run and four runs batted in. Drake Koch allowed one run and one hit in five innings to get the win.
In the nightcap, Misericordia scored a single run in the third and that was all the runs through five innings as freshmen hurlers
Cal Endy and Tom Jacob were in a pitcher's duel. In the top of the sixth, the Cougars took advantage of two costly Aggie errors and scored six runs in the innings for a 7-0 lead.
DelVal got one back in the sixth as Amos drove a run in on a ground out. Two more crossed the plate in the seventh on ground outs by
Tom Crooks and
Timmy Lallis for the 7-3 final.
Jacob went six-plus innings and allowed three runs on four hits for the Cougars. Sean Boylan and Dalton Emerich drove in two runs apiece.
Endy took the loss despite permitting just two earned run in five-plus innings.
Michael Milazzo had two of the Aggies' four hits.
DelVal will host Wilkes University for a MAC Freedom game on Thursday, March 29.
