Bats Explode In Second Game As DelVal Baseball Splits Twinbill In Florida

FORT PIERCE (FL) – Delaware Valley University racked up 15 runs and 21 hits in the second game as the Aggies split a doubleheader with Western Connecticut State University on Wednesday. After dropped a 3-1 decision in the opener, DelVal had a 15-0 rout in the nightcap.

The Aggies, who will wrap up their Spring Break trip with a doubleheader against Norwich University on Thursday, moved their record to 3-5 on the season. The Colonials stayed even at 5-5.

Game one saw the Aggies tie it up in the second as Steve Smith had a two-out double and came around to score on a base hit by Trevor Mussleman. However, Western Connecticut State scored single tallies in the fourth and the seventh for a 3-1 lead. DelVal put the tying run on base with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but a strikeout ended the contest.

Jeremy Hefele took the loss, despite allowing just two runs and seven hits in six innings of work. Michael Milazzo was 2-for- 4 while Musselman and Smith had one hit apiece.

The second game was a completely different story for the Aggie offense as they scored two or more runs in five of the seven innings and only went one stanza – the sixth – without plating a run. Meanwhile, Ben Lippincott kept the Colonials off the scoreboard as he went six innings and fanned seven. Two relievers combined for a scoreless seventh inning.

At the plate, Milazzo was 4-for45 with three doubles, three runs scored and four RBIs. Luke Hendricks was a perfect 5-for-5 while knocking in four runs and stealing two bases. Musselman had three hits and three runs scored while Kevin Crill and Timmy Lallis drove in two runs apiece.
