DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley University seniors
Kara Imes and
Taylor Teliszewski each eclipsed the 100-point mark in their careers as the Aggies remained undefeated at home with an 18-15 triumph over Alvernia University.
DelVal improved to 3-1 on the season with all of the wins coming at Robert A. Lipinski Field at James Work Memorial Stadium. The Golden Wolves fell to 0-2.
Teliszewski entered the game two points shy of the milestone while Imes was five away as they looked to become just the second and third players in the three-plus year history of the program to hit the century mark.
Teliszewski notched her 100
th point with her second goal of the game, an unassisted tally with 1:43 left in the first half that gave the Aggies a 4-3 advantage. Imes reached the milestone with a goal as well as she scored off a free position shot with just 7:23 remaining in the contest and it upped DelVal's advantage to 18-13.
Neither team led by more than two in the first half and they were deadlocked at 9-9 at the break. The trend continued in the second half as the Aggies opened with a goal, but Alvernia matched it. The two exchanged goals again with the Golden Wolves' Alyson Keene tying the game at 11-11 with 21:24 remaining.
DelVal took over from there as it scored six of the next seven goals for a 17-12 advantage. Teliszewski began the run with 20:32 to go off a beautiful feed from
Erin McCarthy.
Sabrina Butler and Imes then scored in a 20-second span before Alvernia stopped the 3-0 run with a tally. DelVal then got tallies from Telisewski,
Amanda McKeegan and Imes for the five-goal lead. The Golden Wolves never got closer than three the rest of the way and that came with 67 ticks left.
DelVal was strong on clears at it was 21-for-26. The Aggies also edged Alvernia, 18-17, in draw controls.
Imes finished with four goals and an assist for five points while also adding nine draw controls and three ground balls. Teliszewski found the back of the net four times and scooped up two ground balls.
Fellow senior
Janee' Rhone shined all over the field as she notched four goals and two assists for six points, five caused turnovers, three draw controls and three ground balls. McKeegan had three goals and two helpers for a five-point day. Butler tallied two goals while
Claire Gamache added a goal, an assist, five draw controls and four ground balls.
Amanda Dietrich stopped 16 shots and grabbed five ground balls in the win.
For the Golden Wolves, Keene scored six goals and assisted on two others for eight points. She also tied Brittany Defibaugh for team-high honors in ground balls with six. Tequila Donnelly (three goals, two assists) finished with five points and eight draw controls. Three goalies combined for nine saves.
DelVal will travel to Virginia Wesleyan College for a non-conference game on Wednesday, March 14.
