DelVal Men's Hoopsters Fall To No.13 Swarthmore

SWARTHMORE (PA) – The Delaware Valley University men's basketball team traveled to take on the 13th ranked Garnet of Swarthmore College on Saturday evening, but it was the home team that came away with the 89-53 win in their home opener.

The Garnet improved to 2-0 on the young season while the Aggies fell to 2-1 with its first setback of the year.

Swarthmore jumped out to an early 11-4 lead and eventually held a 12-point advantage halfway through the opening half. The lead ballooned to as many as 15 before the end of the stanza as the home squad shot 50-percent (15-of-30) from the field and 5-of-13 from three compared to 8-of-27 (29.%) from the field and 0-for-5 for DelVal. The Garnet led 37-24 at the break.

In the second half, Swarthmore got even hotter, as it shot 57.6 percent (19-for-33) from the field and cashed in another three treys. The Aggies did connect on four 3-pointers in the second half but only managed to go 9-for-28 from the field.

For the game, the Garnet held a 45-27 advantage on the glass and never lost the lead as it cruised to the 88-55 victory.

Andre Butler led DelVal in scoring with 12 points and he added six boards while Alex Matsinye finished with eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Lybrant Robinson Scored 10 points and seven other Aggies scored in the game.

For Swarthmore, four players reached double-digit scoring led by 17 points from All-American Cam Wiley and 16 points from George Visconti. Nate Shafer led the team with 10 rebounds and seven blocked shots and Colin Shaw dropped 12 points.

DelVal will begin a four-game home-stand starting on Wednesday when it hosts Hood College at 1 p.m.
