DelVal Field Hockey Drops MAC Freedom Game To Manhattanville

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University field hockey team hosted Manhattanville College in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom tilt on Saturday afternoon, but it was the Valiants that escaped with a 3-1 win.

Manhattanville improved to 3-7 overall and 1-2 in league games while the Aggies dropped to 5-6 and 0-3.

DelVal held an edge in shots on goal (four) and corner attempts (five) in the early going, but it was Manhattanville that struck first, scoring twice in a span of 2:40 to take a 2-0 lead with 14:30 left in regulation. The first was a tic-tac-toe passing play that resulted in a tap-in goal for Lexi Crites. Moments later, the Valiants earned a corner opportunity and Arnise King gathered a loose ball and lifted it over the sprawled out keeper.

Head Coach Carol DiGirolamo called a timeout after the second goal and her offense responded. The team applied pressure and earned a late corner opportunity that resulted in a penalty stroke for the Aggies with no time left on the first half clock. Alexa Aguilar stepped in to take the stroke and laced a waist-high shot inside the post to cut DelVal's deficit to 2-1 at the break.

Shots in the second half were even at three apiece and the Aggies held a 4-2 advantage in corner opportunities as they spent a lot of the second stanza in the Valiants end. However, Manhattanville earned a corner with less than two and a half minutes left in regulation and Robin Boot's shot from the top of the arch made it through a maze of players and found the back of the cage to secure the Valiants 3-1 win.

Boot and Crites each finished with a goal and an assist and Emily Antinozzi had a helper as well. King came off the bench to score her goal and keeper Zoe Fillebrown made six saves in goal to earn the win.

For DelVal, Kita Konerth made seven saves while Aguilar and Mackenzie Harper led the offense with two shots on goal each.

The Aggies will take to the road to play Widener on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. before playing another MAC Freedom game at home against Wilkes on Friday night at 7 p.m.
