DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Senior
Kayla Bracken served up 11 of Delaware Valley University's 18 aces as the host Aggies defeated Division II Cheyney University, 3-0. Set scores were 25-19, 25-18 and 25-11.
It was second time that DelVal (4-11) upended the Wolves (2-0) as it had a 3-1 triumph at Cheyney back on September 14.
The Aggies took a timeout in the first set after the Wolves pulled to within one, 15-14. DelVal responded with four straight points, including a pair of kills by
Laura Sweger, to pull away.
It was 13-11 Cheyney in the second set when a service error brought Bracken to the back line to serve. She proceeded to fire up six consecutive aces for an 18-13 Aggie advantage. Bracken later ended the set with a kill.
The third set was all DelVal starting with the first five points and eight of the first 10. Later in the set,
Jess Holster notched three aces in a row and Bracken ended the match with five straight aces.
DelVal had 33 kills with double digits in all three sets. Bracken had eight kills and eight digs to go with her ace total.
Danielle McKelvey had a match-high nine kills and added seven digs. Sweger finished with seven kills and
Tara Moffa had 16 digs on the defensive side.
Taylor Purner dished out 29 assists.
For the Wolves, Virshawna Campbell notched seven kills, 10 digs and a block. Aliaya Cave added five kills.
DelVal will host 10-time defending Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom champion Eastern University on Wednesday, October 10 (7 p.m.).
