Men's Soccer Comes Up Just Short Against Lancaster Bible

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University men's soccer team played its final non-conference game of the season and dropped a 2-1 decision to visiting Lancaster Bible College.

The Chargers improved to 11-6-1 overall and are a lock for top-seed in their conference playoffs beginning next week. The Aggies fell to 3-13 overall.

Lancaster Bible scored twice in the opening 10 minutes of the contest. The first came off a corner in the third minute as Dan Bewersdorff played a perfect ball to the far post and Jared Jordan went up high to put a head on it and direct it into the net. Just over six minutes later, Rusty Risteen raced to a ball in the box and poked it around the keeper before depositing the ball in the open net for the 2-0 lead.

DelVal had three corner kicks to the Chargers one in the first 90 minutes, but had one shot on goal to the oppositions two and remained down by two at the half.

The Aggies controlled play for most of the second half and outshot Lancaster Bible, 6-2. They broke through in the 60th minute when Billy Frazier, Jr. let a shot go from 20 yards out and it snuck through the keeper for his team-leading third goal of the season and a 2-1 game.

Late in the half, Austin Daniels sprung Frazier on a breakaway and he went for the low far post but was denied by the keeper. Then in the waning seconds of regulation, DelVal earned a corner kick and had two shots toward the goal, but a defensive save by Kenny Akselsen secured the 2-1 win for the Chargers.

Frazier had the Aggies lone goal and led the team with two shots on target. He also added a big defensive save while Josh Jarrett made two saves from the goalkeeper position.

CJ DeMarsico played all 90 minutes in goal for Lancaster Bible and also made two saves. Jordan and Risteen had the goals and Bewersdorff the lone assist.

DelVal will play its final game of the season at home against MAC Freedom rival DeSales on Saturday at 5 p.m. The team will honor its seniors with a senior night ceremony before the game.
