Men's Soccer Upended At Gwynedd Mercy

GWYNEDD VALLEY (PA) – Gwynedd Mercy University men's soccer got its first victory of the season as it snuck by visiting Delaware Valley University with a 1-0 non-conference win on Tuesday night.

It was their first win over the Aggies since 2015, and it improved the Griffins to 1-15-1 overall this season while DelVal dropped to 3-13.

Gwynedd Mercy had five shots in the first half, but two on goal. The Aggies registered four shots, and three on goal, including the first chance of the game from Nick Miller in the seventh minute that was pushed over the cross bar.

The Griffins broke the tie in the 39th minute when Abdul Bangura headed home his first of the season off the short cross from Hugh Lynch. DelVal had four corner kicks in the first stanza and Austin Daniels headed one towards the goal, but Kace Peters made the save and the score remained 1-0 at the break.

The Aggies came out in the second and worked two shots and a corner opportunity in the opening three and a half minutes. In total, they ripped 10 shots on goal in the second half and held Gwynedd Mercy to just one, but it was the Griffins defense that held on for the 1-0 win.

Billy Frazier Jr. was one of seven DelVal players to record a shot in the game and had six of the team's 14. Josh Jarrett made one save in goal.

Peters made six saves at the other end and Tyler Bascone led the way with two shots, but it was Bangura who came off the bench for the game-winning tally.

The Aggies will be home for their final two games of the season beginning with Lancaster Bible College on Thursday at 7 p.m.
