MADISON (NJ) – Brooke Sherwin scored in the second half to lift FDU-Florham over the Delaware Valley University field hockey team, 1-0, in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom tilt on Wednesday night.
The win improved the Devils to a perfect 5-0 in conference play, and 13-3 overall, as they remain atop the MAC Freedom standings with two games left to play. The Aggies fell to 5-9 overall and 0-5 in league games.
The two teams combined for just five shots on goal in the first stanza with FDU-Florham holding a 3-2 edge in that department. Both goalies were equal to the task and DelVal fought off 10 corner opportunities, while attempting three of its own, and the game went into the break knotted at 0-0.
In the second half, the Devils had 10 shots on goal and kept the Aggies away from their own cage. Sherwin broke the tie 6:12 into the stanza after taking a feed from Kelly O'Neil in front of the net and blasting it into the top of the cage for what would be the game-winning tally.
Kita Konerth made 12 saves in goal for DelVal and senior
Aimee MacFarland pitched in with a defensive save.
Courtney Austin came off the bench and recorded two shots.
Sherwin's goal was her eighth of the season and O'Neil picked up the lone assist. Samantha Rubin played all 70 minutes in the cage and made one stop.
DelVal has one more road conference game remaining on its schedule as it will take on Misericordia University at 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 20.
