DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley University opened Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play at home, but it was visiting Wilkes University who was triumphant in the 2-0 decision.
The Lady Colonels, ranked in one poll, improved to 6-1-2 overall and 1-0 in league play while the Aggies fell to 2-7-1 and 0-1.
Four minutes into regulation Wilkes earned a corner and capitalized. Elena Denger sent the corner ball into the box and Elise Brubaker brought it down with her head to the foot of Nicolette Towlen who tapped it home for the 1-0 lead.
With 19:42 left in the first half the Lady Colonels took advantage of another corner as Denger collected the loose ball and deposited it in the far corner. The score remained 2-0 into the break.
Wilkes put five shots on the goal in the second half while holding DelVal's offense to zero to walk away with the 2-0 victory. For the game, the Lady Colonels totaled 15 shots on goal and
Haley Young made 13 saves in net for the Aggies.
Delaware Valley will host Goucher College on October 4 at 7 p.m. before returning to MAC Freedom play later that week.
