Game Recap: Field Hockey |

DelVal Field Hockey Falls In Overtime, 3-2, At King's

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Anastasia Araviakis scored the game-winning goal with less than five minutes left in the first overtime to lift King's College over visiting Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom foe Delaware Valley University, 3-2.

The Lady Monarchs improved to 5-5 overall and 2-0 in MAC Freedom games while the Aggies fell to 4-6 and 0-2.

DelVal took advantage of the first corner opportunity of the game as Kara Imes played the ball in and Carlie Baldus fed Alexa Aguilar who found the back of the cage for her first goal of the year to make it 1-0 just 10 minutes in.

The score remained that way until early in the second half when King's tied the game at one apiece off a corner play of its own. Anna Morgan was credited with the goal and Araviakis picked up the assist. The Lady Monarchs took the lead when Kelsey Gabriele sent a cross to the far post where Selina Malacari was waiting for the tap-in to make it 2-1 with 11:15 left in the game.

The Aggies responded less than five minutes later as Samantha Collyer scored her sixth goal of the season on a shot from the middle of the circle that found the inside of the right post with less than seven minutes left in regulation.

In overtime, King's applied early pressure with three quick shots, but Rosie Bishop stopped them all. Down the other end, DelVal earned consecutive corner's and got two shots off (one on goal), but came up empty.

With less than five minutes left in the first overtime, Araviakis let a hard shot go from the top of the circle and it found the left side of the cage for her first tally of the season and the game-winner.

Baldus picked up her team-leading fourth assist of the season on Aguilar's goal and Collyer's tally was her sixth of the season. Bishop made a game-high nine saves.

DelVal will be back in action when it hosts Arcadia University on October 4 before resuming MAC Freedom play later that week.
