DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Arcadia University scored three straight goals to erase an early deficit and down host Delaware Valley University, 3-1, in a non-conference game.
The Knights improved their overall record to 8-4 while the Aggies saw their mark drop to 4-7.
DelVal stuck less than five minutes into the game. Off a corner opportunity, Alex Aguilar got off a shot that was stopped by Arcadia goalkeeper Maya Stern. The ball trickled to the side where
Gillian Nardelli beat a defender to it and scored her sixth goal of the season. The freshman is now tied with two others for the team lead in goals.
The Knights tied it up with 20:04 left in the first half as they scored off a corner chance as well. Gabby Sedaras ripped a shot from the top of the circle and Kayla Brennan re-directed it into the cage.
DelVal had a chance to regain the lead with 7:24 on the clock as it was awarded a penalty stroke thanks to a great offensive rush by
Carlie Baldus. Aimee McFarland came in to take the stroke, but Stern stopped it to keep the game tied at 1-1 and it stayed the way into the intermission.
Arcadia took the lead for good 12 minutes into the second stanza as leading scorer Lauren Dougherty scooped up a rebound off her own shot and lifted it into the cage with the goalkeeper down after the initial save. Dougherty then added an insurance tally with 8:52 remaining off a crossing pass from Sedaras. The Aggies got 10 of their 18 shots after Dougherty's second goal, but could not get the equalizers.
Rosie Bishop made eight saves in the loss for DelVal while Stern was credited with nine stops for the Knights.
The Aggies will travel to Manhattanville College for a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom game on Saturday, October 7 (1 p.m.).
