MADISON (NJ) – Junior
Samantha Collyer scored one goal and assisted on another to lead the Delaware Valley University field hockey team to a 2-0 shutout over host Drew University in a non-conference game.
It was the second win in a row for the Aggies, who climbed back to .500 at 3-3. The Rangers remained winless after five contests.
DelVal picked up both of its goals in the opening 12 minutes of the contest. Six minutes in, Collyer had a shot stopped, but the ball eventually found its way to
Gillian Nardelli and the freshman put it in the left side for her third goal of the season, all in the last two games.
Collyer then made it 2-0 with 23:16 left in the first half as her shot redirected off a defender and went past the keeper. Collyer, an all-Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom honoree a season ago, now has three goals and two assists for eight points on the year.
The rest of the contest belonged to the Aggie defense as they held Drew to just four shots on the afternoon, including none in the final 22-plus minutes. Sophomore goalkeeper
Rosie Bishop had four saves, en route to her second shutout of the year.
DelVal had 29 shot attempts in the contest with Collyer and Baldus leading the way with six apiece. The Aggies will look to make it three straight when they travel to non-conference foe Immaculata University on Wednesday, September 20 (4 p.m.).
