DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Five different players registered a point as the Delaware Valley University field hockey team defeated host Immaculata University, 6-1, on Wednesday night.
The Aggies won their third game in a row to improve to 4-3 overall as they look ahead to their first Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom contest of the year on Saturday when they host DeSales University at five o'clock. The Mighty Macs fell to 2-5 on the season with the loss.
DelVal scored two goals in a span of four and a half minutes in the first half with
Carlie Baldus playing a role in both. Baldus capitalized on a crossing pass from
Kara Imes to make it 1-0 and then found
Samantha Collyer open in front for the two-goal lead.
Immaculata got one back less than two minutes later when Shannon Lozier earned a penalty stroke and buried it in the back of the cage.
The Aggies responded quickly as Collyer sent a ball through the air to the side of the cage where Imes gathered and deposited it to regain the two-goal lead. The score remained 3-1 into the halftime break.
DelVal carried its momentum into the second stanza and scored the only three goals of the second half. Freshman
Gillian Nardelli scored the first off an assist from Imes and the third, assisted by Baldus. Baldus scored the middle tally with
Mackenzie Harper picking up the helper.
Baldus finished with two goals and two assists while Imes earned one goal and two assists. Nardelli tallied twice and Collyer added a goal and a helper.
Rosie Bishop went the distance between the pipes and made seven saves.
Lozier had the lone tally for Immaculata while Megan Donegan led the team with three shots on goal. Randie Kuhar and Jackie Victor split the duties in the cage and made six and four saves respectively while each allowed three goals.
