DelVal Volleyball Sweeps Centenary For First Win Of The Season

HACKETTSTOWN (NJ) – The Delaware Valley University volleyball team picked up its first win of the season and the first for interim head coach Janel Gluch as the Aggies swept host Centenary University 3-0. Set scores were 25-15, 25-10 and 25-14.

DelVal was at the end of a run that saw the squad play three road matches on three consecutive night. The win improved the Aggies to 1-3 overall. And it was the first triumph for Gluch, a former DelVal standout who took over the reins of the program in early August.

The Aggies jumped to a 4-0 lead in the opening set and never trailed. They then scored six of the first seven points and 12 of the first 14 in the middle set, en route to a 2-0 advantage in sets. Then in the third, they were down 13-12 before running off nine straight points, including four on service aces by Kate Woolsey. Centenary (1-5) made it 21-14 before DelVal finished it off with two aces from Danielle McKelvey and two hitting errors by the Cyclones.

The Aggies finished with a .274 hitting percentage thanks to 30 kills and just 13 errors while Centenary managed just nine kills on the evening and had 12 hitting errors. DelVal also racked up 23 service aces.

Individually, Kayla Bracken had 10 kills and four service aces while Woolsey tallied six kills and eight aces. Taylor Klecan finished with seven kills and McKelvey had two kills, six aces, six digs and 25 assists. Jess Holster and Alexis Sideris combined for the remaining six service aces.

DelVal will travel to DeSales University for a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom match on Tuesday, September 19 (7 p.m.).
