Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Baldus Scores Three, DelVal Field Hockey Downs Moravian, 6-1

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley University senior Carlie Baldus notched her first career hat trick as the Aggies exploded for a 6-1, non-conference victory over visiting Moravian College.

DelVal snapped a three-game skid with the win as it improved to 2-3. The Greyhounds fell to 0-4.

Baldus opened the scoring less than five minutes in as she stole a clearing attempt, dribbled into the circle and put a shot in the low right corner for the 1-0 advantage. Moravian came back less than five minutes later as a scramble in front eventually led to an Olivia Schlofer goal off a Zoe Karvan assist.

It was all Aggie after that starting with 21:44 left in the opening half as sophomore Madi Colon slid a short pass to freshman Gillian Nardelli, who beat the keeper for her first collegiate tally. Baldus then made it 3-1 with 15:12 to go before the half as junior Samantha Collyer sent a cross pass into the circle to Colon who directed it to Baldus for the goal. The Greyhounds had the final six shots of the half, but sophomore keeper Rosie Bishop made several big saves to keep it a two-goal DelVal advantage.

The Aggies struck quickly again in the second stanza as Baldus had a shot stopped, but Collyer was there to deflect it to sophomore Alexa Aguilar for her first collegiate goal. Nardelli got her second of the night with 12:35 remaining as she beat Moravian goalkeeper Sabrina Masone to a loose ball and put it into the empty net. Baldus then completed her hat trick with 5:37 left as fellow senior Kara Imes set her up for a blast into the low left corner.

DelVal had advantages of 21-11 in shots and 18-12 in corners. Bishop finished the night with nine saves, including seven in the first half. Masone and Ashley Kunsman combined for 10 stops for Moravian.

The Aggies will travel to Drew University for a non-conference game on Saturday, September 16 (12 p.m.).
