DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University women's soccer team battled Immaculata University to a 0-0 draw in its home opener under the lights on Wednesday night.
For the Mighty Macs, it was their second draw of the season as they moved to 0-2-2 overall while the Aggies go to 1-3-1.
Immaculata was in control at the start of the game as it ripped off 11 shots, earned four corner kicks and forced DelVal's keeper,
Haley Young, to make six saves. On one attempt, Young stared down a breakaway attempt from Immaculata's Carrie Quigley, but stood tall and made the save to keep the game scoreless.
The Aggies came alive toward the end of the stanza as they rattled off two shots and one corner attempt. They maintained they pressure into the second and had a series off three straight shots, the last of which came off the foot of
Calla Gibson and rang the crossbar before being cleared.
The Mighty Macs also found iron in the second half when Carley Preacher had the ball on her foot with the keeper out of position but rang the left post with a shot from 15 yards out.
In the two overtime periods, DelVal held a combined 6-1 advantage in shots, 4-1 advantage in shots on goal and earned one corner kick to Immaculata's zero. However, the effort was for naught as the team's settled for the 0-0 draw.
Young made 13 saves in goal for the Aggies as her team was outshot 20-14 on the night. Offensively, Gibson had three shots on goal to go with her shot off the crossbar.
The Mighty Macs had six corner opportunities on the night and Riley Rudd got four shots on goal. Keeper Allie Tracey made eight saves.
DelVal returns to action on Saturday, September 16 against Drew University at 1 p.m.
