DelVal Field Hockey Opens Season With 3-0 Shutout Over Neumann

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University field hockey team opened its 2017 season with a 3-0 shutout over visiting Neumann University in a non-conference match-up.

The Aggies dominated from the opening whistle, especially in the first half when they outshot the Knights, 9-2. All three goals came in a 12-minute span, starting with a pair of 2016 all-Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom honorees teaming up for the first tally. Carlie Baldus had the ball on the right side and the senior sent a cross into the box where junior Samantha Collyer was waiting for the deflection and a 1-0 with 16:49 remaining in the stanza.

Just more than four minutes later, sophomore Madi Colon got to a loose ball in front off a rebound and deposited it in. Then, with 6:45 left in the half, Baldus stole the ball from a Neumann defender right in front of the cage and put it home for the 3-0 lead.

The shot advantage for DelVal went up to 17-2 in the second half before the Knights registered six of the game's final eight shots. The Aggies also notched a 16-8 advantage in corners, including 7-2 in the opening 35 minutes.

Sophomore Rosie Bishop recorded five saves to open the year with a shutout. Lizzie Yu finished with six stops for Neumann.

DelVal will return to action on Wednesday, September 6 (7 p.m.) for a non-conference tilt at Gwynedd Mercy University.
