Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Aggies Men's Hoops Drops Road Contest At Neumann

ASTON (PA) – Delaware Valley University men's basketball traveled to Neumann University on Wednesday night, but dropped the non-conference tilt 102-74.

The Knights, who made an appearance in the NCAA tournament a year ago, improved to 6-2 overall while the Aggies dropped to 1-7.

Neumann jumped out to an early 8-3 lead as a Brandon Curry trey was the only basket for DelVal during that 2:45 stretch. Curry then connected on a layup and L.J. Robinson did the same to eventually tie the game at 10-10.

The rest of the first half was played at a ferocious, back-and-forth pace with six lead changes and eight ties.  The Aggies largest lead of the half came after an 8-0 stretch, capped by a 3-pointer from Ryan Naccarato, pulled them from down four points to ahead by four at 21-17 with 11:19 on the clock.

With 1:43 remaining before the half and the score knotted at 39-39, the Knights hit three consecutive treys to close out the stanza and take a 48-39 lead into the locker room. Billy Cassidy, Jordan Collins and Raquan Brown-Johnson all connected from deep. For Cassidy, it was one of five 3-pointers he hit as part of a 17 point half for the senior guard.

Neumann continued its run to start the second half, scoring 12 of the opening 15 points to stretch its advantage to 60-42.

Willie Britton then hit a three as part of an Aggies' 9-2 run that made it a 13-point game. Unfortunately, that's the closest the squad would get the rest of the way as the Knights ran off with the 102-74 home triumph.

DelVal shot 41.8-percent from the field and made one-third of its shots from beyond the arc. Britton, Curry and Matsinye each finished with 12 points with Matsinye also pulling down 12 rebounds. Andre' Butler led all players in the game with 13 boards and added eight points. Robinson, in his first game back from an injury, came off the bench to lead the Aggies with 15 points and two steals in 23 minutes of action.

The Knights had three players score 20-plus points including Tyaire Hudson's game-high 25 to go with eight helpers. Brown-Johnson and Cassidy dropped 22 points apiece as Brown-Johnson led his squad with 11 rebounds and Cassidy finished the night 6-for-8 from beyond the arc. As a team, Neumann shot 51.5-percent from the field and 55.6-percent from three-point land.

DelVal will return home to take on 14th ranked Swarthmore College at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 9.
