DelVal Field Hockey Drops Decision At Wilkes

EDWARDSVILLE (PA) – Delaware Valley University's Samantha Collyer scored two goals in a 55-second span in the first half, but Wilkes University scored the final four goals of the game for a 5-2, Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom victory over the visiting Aggies.

The Lady Colonels evened their overall record to 8-8 while improving to 4-2 in league play. DelVal, which was coming off Wednesday's win over conference leader FDU-Florham, fell to 6-10 and 1-5.

Wilkes opened the scoring just 87 seconds in thanks to a tally by Maddie Kelley. However, Collyer and the Aggies responded shortly after. First, Collyer collected her own rebound and scoring 5:31 into the half to tie the game. The junior then scored her 10th goal of the year gave DelVal a 2-1 lead less than a minute later as she deflected in a shot from the top of the circle by Carlie Baldus.

The Lady Colonels tied the game five minutes later on a Marissa Surdy goal. They then took the lead for good with 5:22 left in the half as Megan Kane connected. Wilkes then put the game away with a pair of goals in a two-minute span in the second half for the 5-2 advantage. One of the tallies was by Kane off an assist from Surdy.

The Lady Colonels outshot the Aggies, 21-13, and held a 9-6 advantage in corners. Rosie Bishop made nine save for DelVal, which will wrap up its season at MAC Freedom foe Eastern University on Wednesday, October 25 (3:30 p.m.).
