Aggie Field Hockey Ends 2017 Campaign With MAC Freedom Loss At Eastern

ST. DAVIDS (PA) – The Delaware Valley University field hockey team ended its 2017 season with a 4-1 loss at Eastern University in Wednesday's Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom contest.

The Aggies finished the campaign with a 6-11 overall record and a 1-6 mark in the conference while the Eagles also wrapped up with a 6-11 overall record (3-4 in MAC Freedom).

DelVal wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as junior Samantha Collyer found the top left corner of the cage exactly one into the contest. It was her team-best 11th goal of the season.

However Eastern tied it up less than three minutes later on an Ali Balmer unassisted tally. It remained a 1-1 contest into the intermission with Eastern holding a 7-2 advantage in shots in the stanza.

The Eagles took command in the second half as they scored two goals in an 11-second span. First was an Alison Hoag goal 12:10 into the stanza. Then Balmer got her second tally just a few ticks later.

Balmer had a chance for the hat trick as she lined up for a penalty stroke with 10:37 remaining, but sophomore goalkeeper Rosie Bishop came up with the big stop for the Aggies. Balmer then assisted on Becky Howard's goal with 9:03 to go.

Eastern finished with a 19-5 advantage in shots and had 23 of the game's 25 corners. Bishop was strong in net for DelVal as she recorded eight saves. Alexa Aguilar was also credited with a defensive save. Collyer had three of the team's shots and she finished the season with a team-high 25 points.

It was also the final game in the collegiate career of Aggie seniors Carlie Baldus, Kara Imes and Sonya Laley. They combined for 30 points on the year.
