DelVal Volleyball Falls To Wilkes On Senior Night

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University volleyball team celebrated Senior Night on Tuesday, but it was Wilkes University that came away with the 3-0, Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom win. Set scores were 25-18, 26-24 and 25-19.

The Lady Colonels improved to 8-16 and 1-5 in the conference while the Aggies fell to 3-11 and 0-6. DelVal, which honors seniors Taylor Klecan and Katerina Ramos before the match, has two contests remaining, starting with Thursday's non-conference tilt at Rutgers-Camden.

DelVal held a 12-9 lead in the opening set, before the Lady Colonels, behind the serving of Juliet Betke, ran off eight straight points for a 17-12 advantage. Wilkes finished off the set with a Christie Challenger kill for a 25-18 score.

The second set was a back-and-forth affair that features numerous lead changes. The Aggies had a 20-19 lead before Betke had back-to-back aces as part of a 4-0 run for the Lady Colonels. Back came DelVal with three straight points, including an ace by Alexis Sideris to tie it at 23-23. A service error by the Aggies gave Wilkes a set point but DelVal's Kate Woolsey notched a kill to extend the set. However, a service error and a hitting error by the Aggies resulted in the Lady Colonels winning the set, 26-24, for a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the third, DelVal sprinted out to a 9-5 advantage before the set was eventually tied at 15-15. Wilkes scored the next eight points for a 23-15 lead and the squad closed it out shortly after.

Jamey Mikovich led Wilkes with 12 kills and 20 digs while Alex Ferrier had 11 kills. Alexis Morgan dished out 28 assists.

For the Aggies, Klecan led the way with 10 kills while adding eight digs. Woolsey had six kills and 16 digs while Kayla Bracken had five kills and 11 digs. Danielle McKelvey's numbers included 23 assists and 10 digs. Ramos dugs out three balls in the loss.
