BRYN ATHYN (PA) – Delaware Valley University scored three goals in the opening 27 minutes and peppered host Bryn Athyn College with 44 shots on the evening as the Aggies earned a 4-0, non-conference shutout.
The win improved DelVal to 5-8 while the Lions fell to 2-9.
Samantha Collyer gave the Aggies all the scoring they would need just 5:21 as she came in on a breakaway, dribbled around the goalie and backhanded it into the open net for her seventh goal of the season. The junior then made it 2-0 as she followed up a
Carlie Baldus shot with a goal inside the left post.
Freshman
Gillian Nardelli notched her team-best ninth goal of the season with 8:54 left in the first half as she deflected in a shot from the top of the arc by sophomore Alex Aguilar. It stayed 3-0 for the next 30 minutes until Baldus dribbled down the middle, went around the goalie and put in her seventh goal of the year.
Baldus, a senior, and Collyer are tied for team-high scoring honors with 19 points apiece with Nardelli right behind at 18 points.
The Aggies recorded 22 shots in each half as they were just eight shy of tying the school record of 52 shots that came in a 1989 win over Cedar Crest College. They also took 18 corners. Meanwhile the defense permitted just four shots – all in the first half – and six corners.
Sophomore
Rosie Bishop stopped the two shots that Bryn Athyn had on goal for her third shutout of the season. Macey Mitchell had 22 saves for the Lions.
DelVal will close out its season with four, Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom games, starting with a Homecoming tilt against Misericordia University on Saturday, October 14 (5 p.m.). It will Senior Night as the Aggies will honor Baldus,
