DelVal Women Pick Up 75-58 Road Conference Win At Wilkes

Box Score
WILKES-BARRE (PA) – Danielle Skedzielewski notched 24 points and 17 rebounds while Sam Foy and Ashley Smink combined for 34 points as Delaware Valley University posted a 75-58 road victory over Wilkes University in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom game.

The Aggies improved to 6-8 overall and 2-1 in conference play. The setback dropped the Lady Colonels to 4-9 and 0-3.

The double-double was the fourth of the season for Skedzielewski and it was also the second-highest scoring total in the sophomore's career. It came just four days after she recorded 28 points against DeSales University.

Meanwhile, Foy, a senior, got DelVal going early, scoring 14 of her points in the opening half. In the second stanza, Smink found the scoring touch as the freshman hit 10 of her 15 over those final 20 minutes. The two also combined for eight rebounds, three assists and three steals.

The Aggies, behind Foy, went up 17-14 after the first quarter. Wilkes responded by scoring the first five points of the second for a 19-17 advantage. However, that was the Lady Colonels' last lead of the evening as Smink tied the contest with a jumper and Foy followed with a 3-pointer. Wilkes pulled to within one with 1:21 left in the half, but DelVal scored seven of the final nine points for a 36-30 lead at the break.

The Lady Colonels did get as close as three, 39-36, midway through the third quarter. However, a 15-5 Aggie spurt, including five each from Skedzielewski and Smink, put their lead up to 13 and Wilkes never got closer than seven points the rest of the way.

DelVal hit eight treys on the night and also had a big advantage at the foul line as it went 23-for-28 compared to just 10-for-13 for the Lady Colonels. The Aggies also grabbed 13 more rebounds (49-36) on the evening.

In addition to the trio, freshman Sarah Wills contributed six points and seven boards. Sophomore Monika Smallwood added five points and eight rebounds.

Wilkes was led by Ashley Carter and Gianna Roberts as they each came off the bench to tally 11 points and eight rebounds. Carter also had four steals in the loss.

DelVal will travel to MAC Freedom foe Misericordia University on Saturday, January 11 (1 p.m.).
