Box Score GWYNEDD VALLEY (PA) – Delaware Valley University sophomore
Nick Miller tied a school record with three goals as the Aggies edged host Gwynedd Mercy University, 3-2, in a non-conference game.
DelVal got back to the .500 mark with the win as it improved to 5-5-1 overall. Meanwhile, the Griffins fell to .500 at 6-6.
Miller tied the mark that is held by numerous players in the 40-year history of the program, including teammate
Andre Permyashkin who matched the record in the season-opening win over Penn State York.
Miller scored the lone goal of the first half as he headed home a corner kick from
Austin Daniels with 4:16 left in the stanza. Gwynedd Mercy tied it up 20 minutes into the second half as Chris Blair was successful on a penalty kick.
However, Miller took charge from there. Just 23 seconds after Blair's tally, Miller received a pass from
Justin Scarano and was in on a breakaway. He beat Griffin goalkeeper Tyler Blair for the 2-1 advantage. Then, with 13:19 to go, Miller drilled a shot from 18 yards out to complete the hat trick and up his season total to seven goals.
Gwynedd Mercy made it interesting as Danny Saba scored 39 seconds after Miller's third goal. However, the Griffins managed just one shot the rest of the way and the Aggies finished off the victory.
DelVal was outshot, 13-9, but held a 6-2 advantage in corners.
Connor Hedgepeth came up with seven saves for the win while three Griffins combined for three saves at the other end.
DelVal will return to Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom action on Saturday, October 8 when it travels to Eastern University (2:30 p.m.).
