Aggie Men's Soccer Falls To FDU-Florham On Late Goal

Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – FDU-Florham's Jose Guardado scored with just 35.1 seconds remaining as the Devils rallied for two late goals and a 2-1 victory over host Delaware Valley University in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom men's soccer game.

FDU-Florham improved to 4-6-3 overall and 2-1 in league action with the win while the Aggies slipped to 5-7-1 and 0-3.

Guardado's goal came on the Devils' 35th and final shot of the night. Sebastian Gallo set the play by sending a pass through to an open Guardado, who put the ball high in the net for the game winner.
FDU-Florham had the first 16 shots of the game, but it was DelVal that hit the scoreboard first and the Aggies did so on their lone shot of the opening half. Billy Frazier Jr. sent a pass up the middle towards the top of the box and it became a race between DelVal's Max Drummond and Devils' goalkeeper JT Bretschneider. Drummond got to it first and he lofted the ball over Bretschneider and into the twine for a 1-0 Aggie lead with 8:59 left in the stanza. FDU-Florham fired two more shots before the intermission, but DelVal had the lead into the break.

The Devils kept up the pressure in the second half, but were denied time and time again by Aggie goalkeeper Connor Hedgepeth. He stopped one breakaway at the midway point and had back-to-back big stops as the clocked ticked under 11 minutes left.

FDU-Florham then tied it up with 9:04 remaining as AJ Carnevale stole the ball and set up Justin Estremera for a goal. A minute after Estremera's tally, Guardado hit both the crossbar and the goal post in a 14-second span. He eventually got the game-winning tally in the final minute to spoil the Aggies' night.

FDU-Florham finished with a 35-4 advantage in shots and had eight of the game's nine corner attempts. Hedgepeth had, perhaps, his best game in a DelVal uniform as the sophomore stopped 11 shots.
The Aggies will host DeSales University for a MAC Freedom game on Saturday, October 15 (7:30 p.m.).
